Employment Support FAQ
What families & job seekers often ask
Who is eligible for employment support services?
Our services are available to adults with developmental or intellectual disabilities who want to work but need guidance and support to succeed. Eligibility is often coordinated through your local County Board of Developmental Disabilities or Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD). We also welcome families and individuals to contact us directly with questions about getting started.
What types of jobs can you help find?
We assist individuals in finding jobs that match their interests, skills, and support needs. This might include roles in retail, food service, office settings, or community-based positions. The goal is to find meaningful work that helps each person build independence and feel valued in the workplace.
Do you work with employers to create opportunities?
Yes. We partner with local businesses to promote inclusive hiring practices and support individuals in the workplace. Our team works directly with employers to ensure a smooth transition and provide training or resources that help both the employee and the business succeed.
How does on-the-job coaching work?
On-the-job coaching involves having one of our trained staff members work alongside the individual as they learn their new role. This support helps build confidence, ensures job tasks are understood, and provides strategies for handling workplace challenges. Over time, coaching is reduced as the individual becomes more independent.
How do I get started with employment services?
The first step is often working with your County Board or OOD counselor to discuss employment goals and referrals. Families and caregivers can also reach out to us directly for more information. We’ll guide you through the process and help determine the best pathway to employment for your situation.
