The Bridge Community Integration Services program focuses on helping each person become more active, involved and integrated with their community. In 2013, participants had the opportunity to attend 750 activities and trips.
Typical activities planned include community volunteerism projects, trips and tours to learn more about our community and plenty of fun outings.
With the help from local foundations such as ArtsinStark, The Bridge has developed a multi-sensory room to serve people with Autism and other disabilities. Staff has seen great success in using the room and we're so appreciative of the community's support.
According to a study conducted by the CDC, adults with disabilities are 3X more likely to have heart disease, stroke, diabetes or cancer than adults without disabilities. And, nearly 1/2 of all adults with disabilities get no aerobic physical activity, which is important to avoid these chronic diseases. The Bridge makes each person's physical fitness a priority to help improve health and wellness. http://www.cdc.gov/vitalsigns/pdf/2014-05-vitalsigns.pdf
An inspiring group of people who attend The Bridge in Mahoning County are hard at work to create and develop an advocacy group called Stir It Up Self Advocacy Action Group. http://www.facebook.com/stiritupselfadvocacyactiongroup
The Bridge participates in many different kinds of community volunteer projects to meet the various interests of people served. One of our favorites is making toys at Build A Bear Workshop and delivering them to the patients at Akron Children's Hospital.
The Bridge has a lot of fun. A favorite activity each year is going to a Cleveland Indians game. Numbers in attendance keep rising because of the great seats and experience we have.
Starting the week of 4/20 Siffrin will be offering a virtual day service for anyone that is at home. If you are interested in joining, please reach out to the management team at The Bridge, and we can explain all the new and fun things we are doing. Call 330-478-0263 and choose option 3.
